Nicolás Sorín’s universe travels fluidly from big band music and film soundtracks to symphonic halls, rock concerts and synthesizers. Born in the city of Buenos Aires in 1979, this Argentine artist is a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in the United States, where he trained with maestros Bob Brookmeyer, María Schneider and Vuk Kulenovic. After finishing his academic career, he had the opportunity to conduct the "London Session Orchestra", the "Orquesta Sinfónica de México'' and the "Henry Mancini Orchestra". Confessedly passionate about cinema, he has composed soundtracks for numerous Argentine films being awarded with the "Condor Award" and nominated four times as producer for the "Latin Grammy" in 2007, 2010 and 2013.

Throughout his career, he has worked with international artists such as singers Shakira, Alejandro Sanz, Juanes, Jovanotti and the Spanish Miguel Bose.

Astor Piazzolla x Nico Sorin

The composer Nico Sorin continues to present his homage to the great Astor Piazzollla, reinterpreting part of Astor's work with his electronic ensemble.

The repertoire is based on the concert that the octet performed at the Olympia in Paris in 1977, with songs such as Libertango, Meditango, Zita, Adiós Nonino and Violentango. Based on recordings made by Sorin, the arrangements of the songs and the choice of musicians belonging to different genres and styles, this project approaches Astor's spirit of that time, emphasizing the energy of his music with rock airs.

As Sorin himself says: "The first time I heard Astor's electronic octet, it reminded me of the rock spirit of bands like Deep Purple or Pink Floyd. When it came to reversing the great master, the word that came to my mind was 'irreverence'", I believe that there was no artist more irreverent than Piazzolla and, with that premise and the respect that his music deserves, I put together a group of seven irreverent musicians to pay tribute to him".
